Motorcycle Week Expects to Attract 18,000 Enthusiasts

Fast on the heels of an influx of tourists during Semana Santa, Mazatlán will be the host to over 18,000 motorcycle riders, their families and fans for the 19th year of la Semana de la Moto taking place April 23 to 27.
Ismael López, secretary of Motoclub Mazatlán, said at a press conference last Saturday they expect to exceed last year´s attendance, with the event generating 300 temporary jobs and 300 million pesos for the city.
Eighty-five percent of hotel rooms have already been reserved for the annual five-day gathering, said López, adding that the city´s restaurant industry will be also benefit with motorcyclists spending 500 to 600 pesos per day on meals. He also expects the formal and informal businesses to see a 20 percent increase in income.
Motorcycle safety will be addressed through workshops and conferences on riding technique, curves and inclinations and motorcycle maintenance among other topics.
López told media members that Motoclub Mazatlán is a civil association (non-profit) and funds raised during Motorcycle Week will be used to help other associations and institutions in the port.
A new Body Paint Contest has been added to the line-up this year, while the traditional races, bikini and tattoo contests, regional rides and Mega beach parties will be offered as in previous years.
The musical group Akwid will perform April 24 in the parking lot of Sumbawa in the Golden Zone as part of the Mega beach party and El Tri will close the event with a concert on April 25 at the Plaza de la Moto located beside Sam’s Club.
