Mazatlán and Sinaloa beaches are clean for swimmers and public and private pools are in ideal condition.

The Sinaloa Secretary of Health, Ernesto Echeverría Aispuro, said the most recent Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) report indicates that Mazatlán and Sinaloa beaches are clean for swimmers and public and private pools are in ideal condition.
According to the Semarnat report, the 12 Mazatlán beaches where tests were taken resulted in less than 15 enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of water indicating the water is clean for bathers. A count of 200 would be considered a risk.
The report stated the beaches of Altata, Navolato and those of Guasave, Mochis, Culiacán and Escuinapa all tested clean for swimmers.
In the case of public and private swimming pools, Echeverría Aispuro said that in testing they found that 100 percent of the pools were safe in terms of chlorination and maintenance.
His department has been working with hotels for the past two months as they do every year to ensure tourists that pools are well taken care of. The only recommendation he has for hotels is that in time of heavy pool use, they check the chlorine content three times a day for a balanced PH.
This year the Secretary of Health will place mobile units to attend to medical emergencies at beaches where there are no health services nearby, such as in Cueta Elota, Altata Navolato, Teacapán and Escuinapa.
